Private log cabin, tree and mountain views, secluded yet close to everything | Cabin in Black Mountain
2 Bedroom Cabin in Black Mountain
Nestled in nearly 5 acres of wooded terrain, Blue Mountain Retreat is a serene getaway tucked into a secluded mountain setting, amid hemlock and rhododendron, in the tranquil Buncombe County community of Broad River, a subdivision of Black Mountain.
It is centrally located and easily accessed off scenic highway NC-9, just 20-35 minutes from fantastic boating, hiking, shopping and dining options in and around nearby downtown Black Mountain, Lake Lure, Hendersonville. Each town, roughly equidistant from the cottage in different directions, has its own personality with unique restaurants, cafes, artisanal shops, thrift stores, galleries, wineries, breweries, and coffee houses (additional on each below).
Equally close is Asheville, the area’s most populous city where you’ll find, among many great points of interest, the Biltmore Estate, the largest private residence in the Americas, and entry to one of America’s most scenic drives – the Blue Ridge Parkway. Far from the crowds yet relatively close to everything, our cabin is truly a great place to unwind and disconnect in a welcoming, private, and peaceful atmosphere surrounded by nature after enjoying all the surrounding areas have to offer.
The cabin's main level has an open floorplan living area and a fully equipped kitchen. There's a comfy king-sized bed in the spacious adjacent primary bedroom, complete with a recently renovated ensuite bathroom featuring heated floors, a curbless entry shower, washer and dryer laundry area, and separate water closet. Upstairs you'll find another bedroom with its own bathroom and separate balcony, also recently renovated, as well as a dedicated workspace in the loft overlooking the living area below and a nice view of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Downstairs, there's a bonus room with a futon that can be used as an extra bedroom or just an additional quiet space to hang out.
Outside, you'll find a wrap-around outdoor deck on the main level with lots of options to relax. Sip your morning coffee on the side covered porch overlooking a rustic forest landscape from which you can hear morning birds calls, bask in the sun overlooking the mountain range or take in the evening stars. You can also warm up by either of two fire pits while taking in the cool evening air and listening to the sounds of nature.
The home is equipped with fast and reliable Wi-Fi Internet via a state-of-the-art fiber optic backbone installed just a few years ago, delivering plenty of low-latency, high-speed bandwidth for all your work and recreation Internet needs. Guests are welcome to use the Amazon Echo device to access music, news, weather, etc. or are free to turn it off during their stay. Be advised there are outdoor surveillance cameras monitoring the entrances for security purposes only.
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE NEARBY TOWNS:
BLACK MOUNTAIN (NORTH): Known as the Front Porch of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Black Mountain is exquisitely quaint, casual, and very pet-friendly. It has a really neat and walkable downtown with an inviting Town Square, museums, coffee shops, breweries, dozens of restaurants, and unique shops - including an authentic old-fashioned general store, art galleries, and repurposed train depot - all just 25 minutes away. A short drive from downtown is the picturesque Lake Tomahawk Park and the hiking trails of Montreat. The treelined, curvy roadway that will get you there -- Highway 9 -- is perfectly paved, impeccably maintained, and just downright fun to drive. Along the way, you'll find a large Ingles grocery store, gas station, specialty markets, and everything else you'll need to make the most of your stay. Follow the link for more information on why the town of Black Mountain, also known as “The Little Town That Rocks” is a must see. https://www.exploreasheville.com/article/five-days-black-mountain-itinerary
LAKE LURE (SOUTH, THEN EAST):
On route to Lake Lure, you'll find one of the area's renowned hiking destinations with something for everyone, just 15 minutes from us: Chimney Rock State Park. If you continue through Chimney Rock Village eastbound on hwy 64 for another five minutes or so, you'll reach Lake Lure’s Washburn Marina, Morse park, and the beautifully restored lake beach area, all of which are a must see. Continuing past the marina, the scenic drive will become a bit more windy as you circle the lake, driving past eateries and shops, on route to an Ingles gas and grocery store on the far southeast end of Lake Lure, roughly 11 miles (23 minutes) from the cottage. If you're into horses, driving another 22 minutes south on hwy 9 and then east on hwy 74 will bring you to the amazing Tryon International Equestrian Center, with all sorts of family-friendly events going on year round.
NOTE: This route will take you through areas which experienced some of the worst damage brought on by Hurricane Helene in September 2024, including Bat Cave, Chimney Rock Village, and the Flowering Bridge. Though recovery has been slow and is still a work in progress, the roads are greatly improved and businesses have begun to reopen, determined and delighted to welcome visitors back. Please consider making the trip to show your support!

HENDERSONVILLE (SOUTH, THEN WEST): The closest and most conveniently accessed gas station is 10 miles away from the cottage heading west (southwest) on hwy 64, where you'll find an Exxon right beside Griffin's Grocery & Cafe. Continuing westbound along hwy 64 another 20-25 minutes will bring you to Downtown Hendersonville (https://www.romanticasheville.com/hendersonville.htm), a chic and casual-upscale area that we just love. As the second largest downtown in Western North Carolina (second only to Asheville), downtown Hendersonville has all sorts of shops, restaurants, galleries and even a pinball museum along the pedestrian-friendly half-mile Main Street, as well as lots of other eats and breweries less than a mile away. It's well worth the trip if you've got the time. Three miles shy of the downtown Hendersonville area on hwy 64, you'll find the largest concentration and assortment of recognizable franchise shopping center stores and chain restaurants, as well as numerous fast food options. You'll also find in that area multiple groceries and gas stations, all about 15 miles (25 minutes) from the cottage, including (you guessed it) another Ingles grocery store.
NOTE: In terms of ease of driving, Hendersonville might be preferable to run errands because there are fewer twists and turns compared to the drives into Black Mountain and Lake Lure. Honestly, though, I look forward to visiting each of these towns every time I am in the area and I know you will, too.
